Graffiti for Oprah

This past weekend I was hired to create "graffiti" alongside the attendees of Oprah's Life You Want Weekend in Atlanta. I can now add Crayola window marker with Lysol wipe on textured vinyl to the list of mediums in which I've worked.

You can see me on video here! At the twenty-second mark, I zip in wearing bright yellow-orange and work on my giraffe at lightning speed. Later throughout the clip, you can see more of my doodles in the background.

I made this comic about my band, Tracer Metula, for an anthology that Criminal Records intended to release on Free Comic Book Day. Unfortunately, the project didn't come together. Maybe next year.

Gringo Star at the EARL

Here's a flyer design and illustration I did for Gringo Star, the EARL, and WordProductions. Layout based on David Lapham's rad Stray Bullets comic covers. Tait Howard posted the photo on FB and I felt compelled to draw it. Is the rump gradient too much?

Dang. The amp and guitar look like photos that I cut and pasted in. That's what I get for zooming in too close for the detail work.

Rumspringer Blazers 2

These creature designs are based on silhouettes I made to develop the villains for Rumspringer, which is why they all look pretty sinister. However, I like the idea of benign characters being fairly creepy. Consider Dr. Seuss.

Here's some new concept art for my graphic novel about the craziest rumspringa this side of Breaking Amish. These creatures are called Blazers and they are friendly.

And here we have a Komodo dragon, peacock, rhino, tanuki, and zebra sketched at Zoo Atlanta. In critique, Falynn K told me that my zebra's feet were no good.

St. Vincent aka Annie Clark

I was sketching the upper left face and it started to remind me of St. Vincent, whose music I really dig, so I continued in that vein with a few more portraits based on photos of her.

Maserati's Blue Album

I drew this for Flagpole Magazine in 2006 but never colored it until now. The article covered highly anticipated local releases, so I designed a few "knockoff" album covers, including this one inspired by Weezer's Blue Album. Apologies to Maserati; I'm sure the likenesses are way off.

I was going to participate in this group "art jam" with a different assigned subject to be posted each day the first week of January. But I quit after only one. Might revisit some of the topics later though. I had a great idea for the otter assignment.

Jadyn

I sketched this portrait in S Note on a Galaxy phone while working a PR gig for Samsung. The terrified little subject awkwardly tried to hold a smile for me, but it looked more like a grimace. And even after I told him he could relax, he kept it up, apparently uncomprehending.

Watercolor Elephant

Basically this is my first ever attempt at watercolor, which I've been wanting to take a crack at for years. It was a gift for my lady.
